Carpet for NC1

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _NC1_MK3
  2. I’m based near: __Preston
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Carpet Fitment

Does anyone know if the carpet is the same shape between the MK3, MK3.5, MK3.75 ?

Check out the MX5 Parts website.

Cheers.
I would expect different part numbers due to mat retainers and the net holder.
still won’t say if the shape is the same.
IE would a mk 3.75 carpet fit a mk 3 car.

You are correct that the carpet fixing points differ from mat to mat on mx5parts, the shape of the mats are identical :+1:
Some have two slits in the carpets (NC2 on) to insert the retainers as below if you only have one fixing point in the car maybe a little surgery with a knife to fit 2 clips.

I want a set of rubber mats from mx5parts for my NC2 (they fit all models) I had them in my NC1.

Cheers MickAP
Guessing if the mats are the same shape - the main carpet will be the same shape.

Reason for the question is I have the chance of a very good main carpet from a mk3.75 and wondering if it would fit in to my mk3

I’m saying yes it’ll fit. I’ve owned an NC1 now the facelift Mk3.75 and everything looks the same on the floor pan etc obviously the stuff bolted in has changed slightly, seat mounting holes etc should be in the same location as they are interchangeable. I’ve had them both apart often enough to notice any changes, carpet looks the same, you don’t get the little net pocket on the passenger side carpet on later models. It’s not very good quality, thin in parts but then again a weight saving exercise I guess.

Excellent - cheers

I wonder will those who manufacture better quality replacement carpets for Mk1/2 owners ever decide to include the Mk3 ? I’d love a nice high quality luxurious carpet for my NC.

That would be a real nice option but having done a search - can’t seem to find NC replacements.

Could it be because they are relatively high quality? And thus not much demand for them? My NC Niseko carpets and custom mats are still almost unmarked after 14 years and 37k miles and definitely not worn.

By contrast our ‘genuine’ optional extra (haggled free from Mazda dealer) Mazda3 driver’s mat wore through in less than three years and 11k miles from new. It failed simply because of bad design and inferior materials, and this feature was common to all the after-market alternatives I could find; they seem designed to fail and generate further sales.
When I contacted two separate suppliers they were not prepared to put the heel pad in the right place, ie where the drivers heels rest.
They lost a sale.

After much dithering I eventually repaired/bodged the mat with my custom shaped heel-pad which is still completely unmarked. This preserves the carpet underneath. I used this rubber sheet, its pong dissipates quite quickly…
