I’ve removed the thick carpet style arch liners , they were soaked , holding water in the arches and against the end of the rear sills
I’m contemplating NOT refitting these as I think they could promote rust / rot
BUT ,
As pointed out , they are good for sound proofing against road noise , rain splashing up and possibly stone’s chipping the coating under the arch .
Looking at the ends of the sills , they are totally solid
What’s your thoughts on refitting or leaving out ….
You can see where they rust, they don’t put underseal in certain vunerable places. It looks like they tape over the areas so they can get the plugs/bungs to fit snugly. They could really do with finishing off those areas with the underseal.
I’d be lathering those areas with underseal Geoff after curing the surface rusty bits before it spreads.
Arch liners back on👍
I fitted rubber washers on all the fixings to keep the liners from touching the metal at those points. I had already coated underneath the liners years ago. So far, all good. Personally I wouldn’t delete the liners for two reasons…noise and the amount of keek that will get thrown around the exposed area not to mention stone chips. I’d also be wary of trying to waterproof the liners as that could introduce sweat behind them. I had one of the first new shape Suzuki Swifts back in 2005 and because Suzuki had fitted the wrong type of boot liners, the boot floor rotted out in a few years. This was caused by sweat/moisture not being able to evaporate. Fair play to Suzuki as they rectified the problem in a recall, but it was an extensive bodywork job getting it all fixed.
