CarPlay - how to get split screen?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ NC
  2. I’m based near: __ Manchester
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ Kenwood DMX 7722 carplay unit

I had a lovely Carplay unit / DAB radio fitted recently. Really loving the flexibility of it, and the sound quality.

One thing I’ve not yet managed to do is work out how to get the unit to display in “split screen” mode - with the map on one half of the screen, and music info alongside it (like in the picture below). At the moment, I can either have the map showing, or music/radio info, but not both.

Can anyone guide me towards what buttons I need to push, or options I need to set?

Many thanks in advance,

Nick

It’s got to be in the settings somewhere, they tend to put a user manual online than in the box these days.
My Pioneer automatically comes up split screen until I tap whichever side I want full screen. Same on my daily drivers screen when I connect my phone via AA, are the settings in Android Auto or CarPlay ie on your device?

I found the instruction manual online Mick – but it doesn’t offer any enlightenment on this issue!

I think you just swipe left or right can’t remember which

Pretty sure my son swiped right for apple carplay split screen.
I have Android so can’t test it for you

Normally this view is (in virtual terms) on the left of the last screen showing all your CarPlay compatible apps. So navigate to the screen where you select an app to use and swipe right (or if using a physical controller navigate left as much as you can to push the display to the next screen).

You tap the dots in the bottom right or left depending what side you have selected in settings

On my ND that chocolate bar icon in the corner swaps to big blob with small blobs to select back and forth between single app or map plus music. Possibly only compatible with certain apps?

Thanks guys: I’ll give the “swipe left or right” thing a try in the morning :grinning:

Firstly, thanks to everyone for the guidance and suggestions. Greatly appreciated!

So, I had an opportunity to experiment while Lovely Other Half was driving us today.

And on my Kenwood DMX7722 unit, it turns out that the “eight blobs” at the bottom left (also known as “the chocolate bar”) toggles between three different display modes on the screen. And one of those is the split screen that I was looking for, like this:

So, success! Thank you all

(oh, and the calendar appointment? I can highly recommend The Inn at Whitewell (= Trough of Bowland) for excellent food :upside_down_face:
