Carplay not connecting after changing to an iPhone 15

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __RF GT Sport Nav Plus
  2. I’m based near: __Manchester
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ CarPlay with USB C iPhone.

I fitted a wired car play USB hub (USBA and USBC) about 18 months ago and have had trouble free CarPlay ever since with my iPhone 13 (and my wife’s SE) via the USB C port. It was also working perfectly after the latest IOS release where the new CarPlay features appeared.

This all stopped for me when I moved to an iPhone 15 and the need for a USB C connection for my phone rather than the lightning one we were both using.

I already had a Lightning to C dongle, likely just for charging not data, so as expected, also no joy.

I therefore tried a dedicated Anker C to C cable, understood to be for data but this also did not work.

I then tried an Apple C to C cable - the one that actually came with my new phone and even that was a no.

All the while, Carplay for my wife with the C to Lightning is working fine so I know it is not the USB C port.

I then resorted to the various advice around resetting the infotainment system, removing the phone from car Bluetooth, deleting the car from Phone Bluetooth, rebooting the phone but nothing seems to work.

I recently tried a Thunderbird cable that carries power and data between my USB C multi screen hub and my macbook pro and THAT didn’t work either!

My phone appears to work in all other configurations - I can see it on my Mac when I plug it in with the same cable I tried in the car.

I am at a loss? Am I missing anything obvious?

hey.
ive got the ‘updated’ carplay and dongle box thingy fitted. ive got an iphone 11 which works fine. when the wife drives shes got a iphone 16, and that works fine with the usb-c cable shes uses for charging.

i dont recall any steps whe setting up the wifes phone, but if there are any it will be on the phone side and not the infocar side - as its the phone that will have the security / ‘‘do you want to connect / do you trust this device’’ features.

on iphone there is a menu for it - Settings / General / Carplay. < make sure its not set to disabled

if that helps lol

This sort of thing happened to me when I got iPhone 16 then 17 the way I corrected the fault was to go into the infomat system clear out any trace on Bluetooth and as mine is wireless clear that to and reinstall the new phone from scratch it worked once Bluetooth found the new phone the second time it asked for the password that came with the unit….that then worked as well just go into settings make sure you clear out your old stuff then reinstall the new …Also you need to open the iPhone up to except the Mazda system….I am not sure if this helps due to your set up is with cables and not WiFi ….

There were issues in the recent past with Private Relay on IOS and Mazdas info screen but this was mainly the wireless version but the principal is the same

Firstly make sure you have the latest IOS update (26.1, or 26.2 if you are running beta).

Plug in the phone in the car and in settings on IOS, search for ‘Private Relay’ and turn it off or set to ‘fixed’ on anything to do with Mazda that maybe listed.

Also you can check to see if Carplay has been placed in content and privacy restrictions under screentime in IOS (this did occur on a couple of IOS enabled updates)

Thanks - i just don’t get the message to approve it unfortunately.

Thanks harco,

Relay is off, 26.1 IOS and restrictions are off too.

Still no joy :frowning:

Thanks - tried all that without success :frowning:
