I’ve transported a lot of things in a MX5 before, from extra sets of wheels, extra seats, hood frames, even an engine, but not carried a rear bumper before. Can it be done (safely and legally), as I have an offer of a very cheap bumper but it needs to be collected from a garage 50 miles away. I don’t have access to alternative transport.
It might work from the footwell over the passengers seat to the boot lid with plenty of protection, it is quite a deep form to fit in though but much better shape than the front.
The best I have done is a Mk3 front bumper in the top bunk of an HGV cab, that was a squeeze!
I picked up my replacement front bumper in the MX5. Stuck it down into the passenger footwell over the seat, with the hood down. Thankfully it was a sunny day and I didn’t actually have too far to drive (about 10 miles).
We have had a few customers drive off with replacement bumpers in passenger side, but how on earth have you transported an engine in one, where did you put it??
I always carry an engine around in my MX-5, I keep it in the boot at the front.
