Imho mx5’s are fun in the corners, they’re not made for drag racing.

I think there’s a point of when you want more power sticking turbos and the like it takes away a bit the essence of an mx5 and you should be looking at different cars. An mx5 is about managing the power you have and keeping up with faster things on a straight line… imho that’s the satisfying thing in an mx5 - when the road is straight just wave them bye bye :joy:

I was interested to see how the ITB mod would do as it’s something I’ve considered for my own car but the ITB car also has a swapped 2.5 litre engine. As ckleanth suggested a better route might be buying something like a Honda S2000 with a base 240 BHP for less than the £20K the modified cars all were said to be worth.

As an aside, putting the power and times into a regression model suggests power accounts for around 80% of the elapsed times, although the result don’t attain significance. Modifying the model to add a control for racing driver yes/no (one the drivers is a race driver and the line fit clearly shows their performance is much better than the other three drivers) and the model predicts times almost perfectly plus attains significance.

So in short money buys more power, more power equals more speed, and racing drivers have an advantage drag racing - who knew?
