Cat back for a MK1

  1. My model of MX-5 is: _1.6 Na_
  2. I’m based near: __Leeds
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ advise/ experience

If the MOT doesn’t throw up any surprises I’m looking at getting a catback. Purely for sound it’s a mechanically standard 1.6.

Narrowed it down to the following:

Roadstersport4 - my preference but coming in at just over £900

Racing Beat - Power Pulse - reviews suggest it’s only a little louder than standard so might not be different enough

Racing Beat - Power Pulse mid pipe race back box - internet suggests possible drone

Fujitsubo RM01A - sounds like the one I need but loses the OEM look as it has a 3inch tailpipe.

Ideally I’m wanting something civilised when touring (no drone) but opens up on WOT, anybody any experience with the above? The car is on MeisterR sportives at out of the box ride height would a 3 inch tailpipe risk grounding on inclines/ speed bumps?

Never a one for branded exhaust nonesense I went to my local exhaust specialist, Infinity Exhausts Dodington just off J18 on the M4 and they fitted a stainless steel cat back with no baffles in the back box. Sounds great looks absolutely standard bonus passes noise checks for Motorsport UK events, that was six year 80k miles ago, still sounds sweet

Thanks, know where you are coming from unfortunately I’ve only had experience of generic exhaust builders who haven’t tuned an exhaust just looked at the space and pulled boxes out the store room. Had some awful custom exhausts in the past with flat spots due to flow and horrible drone.

As you’re Leeds, I’d go and have a chat with Tony Banks. They should be able to fabricate an option for you, that meets your requirements.

I know what you’re saying about exhaust builders. It’s the same approach as buying one off the shelf - some will be better and more suited than others!
