Cat D MX5

I’m considering taking a look at a Cat D MX5 (written off by insurers as uneconomical to repair) the car had a front end collision. Is there any particular weakness in an MX5 (mk3) thats been in a front end collision that is important to look for? Alas I don’t know the severity of the crash though the car has been running several years & passed sevearl MOT’s since.

The fact it has been running for several years since repair suggest nothing too much to worry about with respect to the accident repair. A detailed review of MOT history and subsequent examination/questions around anything listed there are probably of most importance, that plus reviewing any known MK3 points covered in the buyers guide.

One of the previous Tayside Co-ordinators of the club purchaed a Cat whatever MK3 and put in a very low bid for it when he bought it and ran it with no issues. He purchased the car due to it’s low price!

When he tried to sell the car, he was very annoyed about the even lower bids he got for the car.

Therefore the warning has to be low price on the way in but even lower resale price on the way out unless you are going to keep the car for the long term.
