Does anyone have any previous experience of CBS Autos - Mill View Garage, Ecroyd Street, Nelson BB9 7BJ?
My 5 is due its service in about 200 miles and these seem the closest ‘specialist’ to me, but I was hoping someone may have had dealings with them before and hav an idea of pice / value / what services they offer etc?
Well - I didnt get any feedback but went for it anyway and I have to say I’m well pleased.
Carl who owns the garage, is an MX 5 lover and was working on a fab red Mk1 when I was there. He was really friendly and was quick to pass on knowledge where I needed it and the price was good too!
I have to say if your in the Blackburn / Lancashire area and are struggling to find someone / somewhere to get your 5 looked at, go and see Carl.
Come pay day I’m getting him to waxoyl mine and then we can start looking under the hood!!!
hi, just to let you know if your worried where your mx is serviced let me introduce you to carl at cbs autos. ive owned my mx since jan 2000, and have been continually let down by garages and their mechanics whose slovenly dereliction to even the basics has left me pulling my hair out (whats left of it ) however i found carl who has now been looking after my mx now for the last three years, at the moment we are in the latter stages of a complete rebuild including…everything , eg all bushes replaced, all suspension arms bead blasted and powder coated new kyb gas Adjustable shocks fit rebuilt engine fit turbo and intercooler replace all hose’s fit dump valve fit fuel regulator sort out ecu for anti knock sort out boost, fit 1800 injectors fit drilled and vented discs sort out 3’'stainless steel exaust loose the cat(up to 93 i think) sort out drivers seat speakers sort out paint, we’re not there yet but we will be. so if you want someone who is highly skilled does’nt rip you off give carl a ring you will be well impressed with this guys attention to detail my car is still on the ramp if you want to inspect his work.
I took the advice of other forum members and went to see Carl at CBS Autos Nelson Lancs. what a decent bloke his prices were very good and he had even cleaned my car when i picked it up.
He has had a butchers at my 5 and has given me a raft of suggestions for improvng the performance based on a number of budgets.
Dont expect loads of fancy talk and a nice reception area where you sit on leather settees and drink tea from a machine!!!
Do expect a mechanic who knows what he is talking about, tells it like it is, obviously enjoys his work, and if you want a brew he will make you one (well shaun will) but you are better off letting him do the buisness and making a brew for him “coffee two sugars”
he replaced the discs and pads, mot’d and a couple of oter bits and bobs, cleaned off the underneath of my 5 which when he had finished looked as good as the day it came off production and then waxoiled it, believe me when I say he did not miss anything and was very thorough not just blasting the stuff everywhere but doing the job properly making sure that the bits that should be avoided were avoided.
Carl is obviously a well respected and trusted lad as a number of people poped in the garage to ask his advice and organise work and just lef him to sort stuff out.
Carl even saved the dog buiscuits he found in one customers air filter and diagnosed his encounter was with a squirrel !!!
Been to see him multiple times recently, and have been a top bloke, has done lots to my mx5 and all has been brilliant, booked in early jan to get the car running smooth, looking forward to the summer once again.
also he has lots of spares and at great prices, if your in the area give him a call
Well i have been to Carl multiple times recently, This weekend Carl has fitted my new Shocks, spring and Front bumper, and i have to say the car drives and looks great. Thanks again Carl
Just want to drag this thread back to life to say ‘ta’ to Carl at CBS Autos. Picked up my mk2 from him today after having both sills sorted (starting to rust at the back - the usual thing!) and getting the underneath and inside the sills Waxoyled. He’s done a really nice job on the sills - he showed me some of the bits he’d chopped out and they looked pretty nasty, quite a bit worse than I thought they’d be based on what I could see just from the outside. You’d never be able to tell they’d been repaired - they’re like Ernie Wise’s wig, you can’t see the join . Can highly recommend CBS to anyone looking for someone to sort out their rusty bits!
Both myself (mk2.5) amd son (mk1) use Carl all the time. He has always given first class service. His work is of a high standard for both engine suspension and body work. He also uses the best painters available. You will not be disappointed in the service. He is also very easy to deal with. Hope this helps,
