Hi all i have tried today to place a cd in my non bose 2010 mazda mx5 unit and all it says is checking cd thats it can anyone help thanks
If the CD(s) play OK on other units it would suggest that the player in the car has a problem with the motor (is the CD spinning?), or the laser/scanner unit is not reading the CD, these problems may or may not be repairable or the parts replaced if they’re still available, the unit is fairly old by in manufacturer’s terms, and I doubt it would be cheap.
FYG I have a mid-priced Hi-Fi system about the same age and the laser unit in the CD player (£1250.00 when new) recently “Died”. I was able to get it fixed by the UK manufacturer only because they keep spares for every unit they make, but it cost me £250.00.
Are you trying to play an ordinary music CD or one with MP3’s on? If it’s the latter then there are only certain formats of disc that it will read.

I had a similar experience over a year ago with my player showing CHECK CD every time. My player is the 6CD Bose type so it is different, but the problem message is the same. Take a read through this:

Mine is still working perfectly to this day. I am suspicious it was a dirty laser lens…but I cannot be 100% certain. A cleaning disc would not even be accepted! Maybe it needed the isopropanol treatment to shift the dust/haze layer or whatever it was.

Hi i have an update i removed the cd player today opened it up and cleaned the laser then put it all back together and still getting the dreaded checking cd what a waste of time does anyone know where i may be able to get a good unit from please
Oh that’s a shame I was hoping you may get the same result as I had.
I guess good old Ebay is a good place to start.
