- My model of MX-5 is: __ SE Roadster 1.8
- I’m based near: Aberdeen __
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ I have closed the sliding cup holder cover with too much stuff in there and now something is jamming it from sliding open. Do I need to take centre console out and how do I do that please? I think there’s a screw under the cup holder which I can’t get to? Have tried wiggling coat hanger etc to try to dislodge item but it’s not working. Feel like an idiot
. Any ideas? Has anyone ever done this or is it just me
Cut the side off an empty flat plastic container (Milk) just slightly smaller in width than the sliding cover, but longer in length.
Try pushing that as close to the underside of the cover as possible, all the way to the back.
Hopefully whatever is catching on the underside of the cover will now be shielded and hopefully your cover will slide over it.
Great idea! I’ll give it a go
No joy. Cover will only open about 25 mm so the angle is too steep to get close to the underside of the cover. The plastic feeds down into first cupholder and then just sticks there. Tried a pallet knife too. Also tried coat hanger, banging on the lid and some shouting and swearing . Am demented now. Do I need to go to a Mazda dealer to get this fixed? I’ve read all previous threads/solutions but I am not confident to start drilling holes or just yanking the whole console out.
My house keys are stuck in there so I can’t really just ignore it. Also, for all its poor design, it is a much needed space in a v small car and I want to be able to use it.
Pop off the little trim panel behind it as I think you can get a bit of access through there. You can see from the second pic that the cover slides back into this area.
If you can’t get the cup holder open you can’t get to the screw that holds the console down.
