Hi all, will my MX be a belt or chain timing , its just i was looking to get it done , its a 2003 1,8 , thanks guys
That’s a MK2.5 with a cam belt. MX5 only went to chain in 2005 with the MK3.

Hi guys , thanks for the replies , i was almost sure it wqas a belt but a mechanic told me it was a chain when he put my reg in, strange
Don’t use that mechanic whatever you do, lol
…but seriously it’s a non interference engine so if the belt snaps inconvenience but no major engine damage. Change interval on your car is 54000 miles. If you decide to do the cam belt I would advise replacing the waterpump at the same time.
