Changing Headlight bulbs

Does anyone have any experience of replacing the passenger side headlight bulb from the top by moving the fuse box. I am aiming to do this tomorrow in my lunch hour with minimal access to tools so I am reluctant to consider going in through the wheel arch due to the apparent faff of removing the wheel, arch liners etc.

Which method is better? Also are there any detailed ‘how to guides’ for either of these methods on the forum

thank you

Hi all - it’s definitely not the weather for attempting repairs in an exposed car park by the sea. Nearly froze my 'taters off trying to replace the headlight bulb. Got the fuse box unbolted but couldn’t move it enough to gain any sort of decent access to the bulb, lots of sharp edges in there too. Had to admit defeat in the end as the end of lunch loomed. Looks like it will have to be done by the experts after all

Bumper off and headlight out isn’t particularly difficult but I don’t really fancy an hour on my back removing wheel arch clips this weather.

It’s not a long or complicated job to remove part of the arch liner.  I did it a while back, on the N/S, to replace the indicator bulbs.

Some people have reported that you don’t need to take the wheel off, just turn it onto full lock.  I found the extra space useful.

They’re more difficult to change over than some cars, but what’s the alternative?  If the whole light cluster has to be removed (like on some cars), they’re you’re at risk of water getting in if it doesn’t seal properly afterwards.

Changed yesterday dipped beam passenger side. Raised wheel, took it off, removed 7-8 arch-liner pins (one broke) and only then did I have enough space to manouver safely IMO.

Long-way round but job was done properly. Some move the fusebox, but what if you get electric gremlins afterwards? Or something in a connector snaps from accessing it at an ackward angle?

But thanks for the tips, I might need to do this soon.

This might help you to see exactly what you are dealing with when it comes to the retaining clip, adaptor and bulb.
I removed the front bumper as I was repacing all the bulbs and fitting drl’s.
Best of luck…
