What would happen to put the ecu into a limp home mode?

Where can I find some info on this, I haven’t heard of this before?—

Page F-80 of the 1990 MX-5 Workshop manual. Page 224 if you are looking at the PDF version.

Thanks for that niggle, don’t know wether it’s the gin or altzheimers but I had completely forgotten that function—

Why not fit one of these instead of removing it?

Because they make the car heavier and don’t free up any space. If your goal is to improve performance or make room for something else (like a remote oil filter) sticking a shiny thing to it doesn’t help.

You’re welcome, Geoff.

Given the choice between a bottle of Tanqueray and a list of ECU trouble codes I’d take the mother’s ruin too … Smile

   3oz will make any difference?

Yes, they will make the car exactly 3oz (or 85g for anyone reading this in Europe) heavier.

Some poeple are as obsessive about weight as other people are about making things shiny.

Shock

Yes, But the act of making most bits shiny ALSO reduces there weight… Unless you make it shiny by covering every conceivable part in stainless steel.

(Every time I see a photo of Pollyanna’s engine bay I wonder if the added weight of all the stainless bit’s is actually offset by the amount of metal removed from all the aluminium bits by the polishing. LOL  Stick Tongue Out).

(PS, I wasn’t taking the micky there Pol, If anything I wish I could muster up enough motivation to make my engine bay look that good.)

And with aluminium parts polishing removes stress raisers - making the parts prettier, lighter and stronger and all for just a bit of effort. Win. I have huge respect for anyone able to put the effort in to do this.

I wrote that at least six different ways trying to avoid sounding like I was judging. I was hoping to make a link between the two points of view.

Quite right, even if you still can’t spell “people” correctly after six attempts … Big Smile

(My “handbags at dawn” dig was tongue-in-cheek too - I know you mean well) Wink

[:D] my spelling isn’t too bad given I do most of my typing by beating my face against the keyboard.

Indeed. If a sharpened pencil jabbed into each eyeball does not work for you then headbutting the keyboard is really the only way forward (remove the pencils first though) …

Yes, I remember when you accidentally left your web cam on one time…

You should see my spelling mate, It’s bloody awfull… But now I use this little lump of free software to cover up my lack of letter ordering skills ! It makes me look less of an illiterate retard than I am ! (I didn’t know how to spell illiterate… But it did ! Result !)

if you look at the inside of the drivers` side anti-roll bar bracket, you will see two tapped holes that happen to line up with the remote filter mount. Mount it upside down there and the filter is easy to get at, buy two hoses from Pirtek or Hyphose and there you are,or extend the system to add a cooler as I did.

oil filter now fitted in its new home so easier to change.  hoses have been made by bristol hose so just got to go out and connect it all up with the oil cooler as well

I like the idea Mike, but you’ll have a hell of a mess when you pull the filter offThinking, unless in theory all the oil drains from the filter back into the sump, which it can’t do if the non return valve is fitted/working…just a thought mate, I like to see new ideas tried out—
