Cheap Ebay calipers?

Are these exactly as they appear - cheap, inferior copies?

Or, are they actually ok?

Anyone got experience?

These are what I mean - http://www.ebay.co.u…=item566169e792

Theyre very cheap, to my mind at least, and they state ā€œNot the cheap Chinese copiesā€ā€¦ both parts of that sentence I find worrying. But need I worry?

Ā

Reason for asking is that she needs new pads all round and a rear caliper is sticking slightly. Ive had one go at the sticky fella, it freed off for a bit but its back again and is boring me, Id rather just throw a recon unit at that corner and be done with it, unless theyre a false economy?

Thoughts from the collective?

No experience of this seller, when the handbrake refused to work on my OSR caliper I used this company on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Right-Brake-Caliper-To-Fit-MAZDA-MX-5-CAR1708R-/370982653587?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item56604a0e93

The caliper has done 500 milesĀ  with new discs and pads alround with no issue. The car stops true and quickly just as it should.

Even if I could produce and sell a set of calipers and make a proifit at that price, if they were any good I would want to charge more. If your product is good, why are you selling at the lowest price?

Ā

And I would worry about the dodgy spelling, they probably aren’t cheap Chine copies, but they quite possibly are cheap Chinese ones.

That’s cheap he’s sold 3 pairs try and get info on people he sold to and send them an e mail asking how good are they first

Don’t buy them please, your life is worth a lot more…

Have you had a good look at the ones that are on? it could just be the handbrake arm on the bottom of the caliper that is sticking and 9x out of 10 it can be put right again, because it is something that is always over looked on servicing the brakeing system, and is one of the biggest reasons for rear calipers failing.

The location is also strange ā€˜Dewsbury, Manchester’ - they’re about 50 miles apart unless its a Dewsbury I don’t know of.

Thanks guys. Too good to be true… but thought I would run them by you on the off chance.

Ive attacked the brakes today as they need pads anyway. Started with the troublesome off side rear and found some light corrosion on the piston. So Ive cleaned that up along with everything else, greased and refitted.

What I found when it was all back on was quite a lot of movement in the now bolted up caliper - the play is between the sliding pins and their holes. I dont like it, but figured I would get a little video and see what you guys thought - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4szn4uvDpM&feature=youtu.be

Its just finishing uploading now, so please try again in a few minutes if its not done when you first click.

Brilliant, thats most helpful.

Anyone else?

in their defence, & you will all probably think i’m a cheapskate (which is true), I have used dewsbury auto salvage several times including those rear calipers 6 months ago & they have always supplied good new parts & i now have a handbrake which works properly for the first time in 10 years. it always amazed me how it passed mot every year on handbrake.
the brakes are bang on & very safe (this from a trusted garage i’ve used for years)

I would have thought that if the rear caliper piston had been set properly, via the snail gear adjuster, you would not have movement like that. Never had sliding pin wear in 17 years of MX5s, don’t think these things are precision castings. If the pins were damaged, it would be pretty obvious from checking them.
