Chrome Mirror Covers

Just received a pair of chrome mirror covers I won on ebay (£17 - bargain !).

They are new - chrome layered over ABS - and perfect - not a mark on them.

Any ideas for protecting them in terms of polish or wax? I have the full selection of Autoglym products and other carnuba waxes etc.

Thanks,

Steve

Very nice.

I would use a bit of autoglym metal polish, then collinite wax if you have some. Experiment with a few different things im tempted to say seal them with autoglym extra gloss protection before wax as well though probablt a bit OTT.

Enjoy!

If the covers are chrome over plastic (vapour deposition) then the chrome layer will be very thin. Metal polish will tear through the chrome into the plastic underneath in no time at all. If the chrome is not tarnished or scratched then just keep a good layer of wax on them.

Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection is just carnauba wax dissolved in a petroleum distillate solvent base, so EGP and a paste wax is indeed a bit OTT.

AutoGlym red, then AutoGlym Gold, Once a month.

Settled on my Simoniz original carnauba wax in the end. It’s a pig to polish off - esp on mirrored chrome - but long lasting !
