- My model of MX-5 is: 2006 NC
- I’m based near: London’s immortal A406
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: the cigar lighter circuit
Does anything else share the cigar lighter fuse?
My socket appears to have packed up, and I’ll be investigating with the multimeter at the weekend, but just wondering if anyone else has some wisdom on the topic. Basically I just want to be able to use the 12v juice for a tyre inflator and charging etc. I’m suspecting the fuse at the moment but what else might cause the fault?
Thanks all round, take it easy

It’s fuse no2 (2nd down) in the small fuse board bottom of the passenger A pillar. It’s a 15 amp fuse, nothing else shares that. I’d be suspect of the plug in device connection you have put in there, I’ve had problems with some before, a bit fiddly to make a connection. Try an alternative, maybe you have, or it’s the fuse.
Thanks Mick!
I guess that’s easy enough to check. In fact I was trying out a tyre inflator this evening - dead trousers - then plugged a ( rarely used) USB adaptor into the cigar socket and no joy there either. So two devices for no result. I definitely wouldn’t rule out a bit of corrosion or a film of crud inside the socket. Anyway, provided it ain’t too much like brass monkeys , I’m out in the yard with the meter tomorrow (and a scrap of ScotchBrite)
Thanks for the steer, priceless

ISTR my NA had a fusible link inside the lighter socket, do know if they still do these days.
Did you have the ignition on?
Aye and even the motor running! I’ll check out fuse etc tomorrow before the snooker starts.
