Hi, I’m hoping someone can give me some advise on the cigarrette lighter and the fuse to it. Note my car is a 1.8 Eunos Roadster 1995.
The other day my cigarrette lighter stopped working. Noted the the last item I used in it has a melted end now - a tyre pump compressor. I did not notice at the time as it worked ok and blew the tyre up. Anyway since then nothing works in it.

Obviously I thought the fuse had gone, so under the dash board I have gone. Now I belived that the blue fuse on its own should be the cigar fuse - however they are all in Jappenesse so I’m guessing. Either way I took it out and it is ok. In fact it turned the stereo off. I have taken each fuse out of the fuse box and they are all ok.
Next I check if there is power at the fuse socket. I have taken the plug off the back and checked if there is power there, earthed there or to the body chasis. But no there is not (even remebered to turn the igination on). So I’m a bit stumped and hoping someone else there has already been here. Is there a fuse somewhere else? If so where? Or is there another problem I am missing. Nothing looks a miss under there with the wiring. In fact there is a wire piggy backed off the power wire to the cigarette lighter, but oddly everything in the car appears to be working and I can’t rememeber or see where there wire goes to. There is no power at the sotchlock either.

Any help much appreciated.
If the main fuse is OK, (it also feeds the stereo) then the only other fuse is on the back of the cigar lighter body.
You will have to prise it out of the dash to take a look.
The only thing that is strange is that you cannot get a meter reading from the connector you’ve taken off the cigar lighter, you should get 12v here if the main fuse is OK.
Thanks for that Geoff but I had done a search and found them, but where of no help on this occassion they do not match my fuse box???
Thanks, the fuse on the body is something I didn’t know. But are right it is strange that I’m not getting a 12v supply on the leads in the first place ;(
What I was shocked about was how thin the cigareggte lighter supply wires are.
Anyway thanks for your commments.
Another possibility is that the blue/black wire is open circuit as there is no 12v at the connector.
It’s not unknown for the Scotchlock to cut through a wire and when a high current is passed through the wire it “blows” like a fuse, worth a look!
Also check your black wire back to chassis.
Hope that helps
It would appear using a second mulitmeter there is power there. I’ve replaced the scotch lock and I’ve take the lighter socker out, no fuse on the back. Looks very corroded / oxidized on the inside so I’m getting a new one from MX5 parts to see if this puts things right.
That should sort it, at least you’ve got 12v at the connector.
When you get the new lighter you’ll see a small link on the back of the socket, this is actually the fuse (probably disintegrated on your old one).
Let us know how you get on
Thanks to Mx5parts quick delivery as usual I have swapeed it with a new one and all is working.

Well here is the old socket.

And here is the new one thanks to MX5 parts.

Back of the old one.

Back of the new one.

New one fitted and fully working.
Thanks for your replies now happy once more.
