Hi Guys,
The daisies on my Eunos are in need of a good spruce-up (not a refurb just yet) and I wondered if anyone could recommend a cleaning product that is safe to use, as I gather that some of them can be rather “acidic”?
Hi Guys,
The daisies on my Eunos are in need of a good spruce-up (not a refurb just yet) and I wondered if anyone could recommend a cleaning product that is safe to use, as I gather that some of them can be rather “acidic”?
Most of them are…I’ve used a few different brands over the years (Autoglym,Hot Wheels, etc) and yes, they will get dirty wheels clean, you just need to make sure you give them a bloody good rinse off with clean water afterwards.
In recent years I’ve moved away from these caustic cleaners and just use bodywork shampoo in warm water and a large helping of elbow-grease, then give the wheels a good couple of coats of RimWax…this method used regularly (usually weekly) has given me very good results…brake dust comes off nice and easy.
Many wheel cleaners used to be acid. Many complained so instead they used “non-acid” ones. In practice this meant strong alkali’s being used, which is just as bad (Valet Pro Bilberry is pH 13 concentrate, reduced it is still around 10/11).
I know some will disagree but for an occasional wash then used a fallout remover like iron-x, many of which are packed full of degreasing agents and can provide a good clean without as much risk*.
*I would say reduced risk as in an initial application these are pH netural, but become acidic (not as strong as some of the acidic variants) during action rinsing with plenty of water neutralises it very well.
For general cleaning get them protected and use shampoo as they are pH neutral or look into the few products from Auto Finesse or Dodo Juice (mellow yellow) which are ph neutral for regular use.
As Ninja states a good fallout remover doesca great job and a lot safer than more aggressive products available
I have used all these and they are ALL very good
Bilt Hamber AutoWheels
Power Maxed Iron Fall Out
Gyeon Q2M IRON
Wonder Wheels Hot Rims (Only £4 at Morrisons)
Carpro Iron X
AutoBrite Purple Rain
NOTE:
ALWAYS complete the job by applying Wheel Sealant then wash the wheels with soapy water every week and you shouldn’t need to apply any cleaning products for months
Golden Rule I always tell anyone…“Regular cleaning makes each wash a doddle !!!”
Thanks guys.
The secret is not to let them get too dirty. It also helps to give them a regular rinse with a pressure washer on a low setting, thus avoiding using chemicals as much as possible.
Pretty well covered above - some good advice and products mentioned.
I’m another advocate of the fallout remover on the alloys.
My dedicated cleaner is Autobrite Britegel - which is good.
A good selection of brushes and wheel mitt may also help ease the process.
Once protected with a good sealant, then regular washes should be much easier.
Another point - whilst doing the alloys; dont forget the tyre walls.
A good clean with a general APC cleaner and agitate with a stiff brush.
Good clean tyre walls will help the application and durability of any tyre dressing you may apply!
I’m a fan of the Bilberry wheel cleaner. Bought a litre bottle of concentrate a couple of years ago and still got 90% left. Does a great job and smells nice while you are scrubbing away!
Funnily enough, after doing more research on the internet, I’ve decided to give Bilberry a go after the very positive reviews. Thanks again for all the advice guys…I may post after I’ve given the Bilberry a shot.
Cilit Bang was recommended to me & it seems to work, mind you being retired with time available I clean the wheels every 5-7 days. Sad innit
Yes Joe, you need to get out more
I dont care cos you will just be blinded by the shininess of my alloys
