cleaning and detailing

Guys, I know one needs to shampoo clean and dry the car before using a clay bar and lubricant.

However, does one need to shampoo clean and dry it again afterwards before applying polish and polish protection ?

Personally, I’d always rinse with water and thoroughly dry after claying. You don’t need to use shampoo at this point.

Then you can start the polishing sequence. If you have a dual action polisher you can get amazing results.

Thanks for the advice. I’ll look into dual action polishers. I’ve been worried about it slipping and scratching the car. At the moment it’s elbow grease…

I usually give it a proper clean again before polishing after clay.

I went over again with a quick detailer. Would suggest a rinse off makes sense.

DA’s are just so easy to use and well worth the investment in my opinion. There is some scare mongering that they are for professionals which in my opinion isn’t the case. Buy a decent quality machine and follow the instructions, working in 600 x 600 areas, and its hard to go wrong.

Is there a reasonably priced and easy to use DA polisher you could recommend ? Halfords do one at £80 whereas I’ve seen some on Amazon for about £60. Also does one use it both for the Autoglym super resin polish and the extra gloss protection, with different pads of course - which currently I apply with elbow grease. You can see my car in the Oct edition of STHT. It’s the white Mk3.75 with red seats. Thanks for ongoing advice. Regards, Ajit

Autoglym Extra Gloss should not be rubbed in.  You just have to coat the surface with the product.
