Cleaning and polishing back box; advice needed

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NC 1.8, 2007
  2. I’m based near: Oxford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Back box cleaning / polishing

Hey folks - saw a picture of the rear of my 5 earlier today and all I could see was the dirty cat back / back box…

So, naturally, I’m looking for some advice on cleaning it up! Took a gander online but struggling to find advice that doesn’t involve an electric polisher.

Anyone do this regularly? Tips, tricks, ideas? Is electric the only good way?

I cleaned and polished mine earlier this year with this…

It needed some heat resistant paint on the end plates and parts of the pipe bends.

It needed to be taken off to check the underseal and put a new gasket on between the joint. Easy enough if you haven’t got any rust bolts to deal with. I didn’t, just a few minutes job to remove. Just hand polished.:+1:

Another vote for Autosol. Superb product.

Very nice - did you just go straight to town with the polish, or do any kind of pre-wash with it?

Washed it first to get the road dirt off it.:+1:

and if it’s really bad use Autosol with 0000 grade wire wool. It will not scartch. Thats the grade you can clean the windscreen with.
