Clicking Clutch Pedal

Hi gang, quick answer on this please. We’re on our way to Torquay and the clutch pedal is making a really irritating clicking noise as I start to press the pedal. There is a clutch switch with a white plastic actuator rod on it that seems to go through a hole on the clutch pedal and click as it does so. Looks like a rubber bung has dropped off. What’s the switch for and can I “duet rig” it with some electrical tape over the hole til I hit Torquay?

That’s Dury rig!!!

I hate to say this, but actually it’s Jury Rig

This will be the LA01 clutch switch fitted to all MK1 - MK2.5 cars.

I think it allows the ecu to control idle when the car is in neutral but this thread goes into more detail.

Just checked our cars. My 1997 MK1 has a rubber bung in place in the hole to operate the switch.

Our Eunos does click a bit and no bung, exactly like yours the click is where the white plastic switch plunger is catching on the metal pedal hole.

Don’t worry about it as no apparent effect - enjoy your trip to Torquay.

A bit of electrical tape wrapped around that hole in the pedal will work though.

It’s  covered in the FAQ https://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=231

Thanks guys! I temporarily fixed it with some parcel tape and have subsequently made it to Torquay in perfect shape!

Cheers!

This just happened to me on my way to Cornwall.
In my brother in law’s garage we cut a thin piece of rubber the size of a 5p piece. Drilled a hole in centre. Put a small countersunk screw in flush but with enough screw length to go in the hole. Wrap a pice of gaffer tape on the screw head side leaving the ends flapping. Place over hole so screw goes though and wrap the flapping ends of gaffer taper round. Keeps the rubber in place when pedal is released. MX5 Parts say its available from Mazda cost £5

This thread was so useful. Had the annoying clicking noise. Looked at the thread. Looked in the footwell and saw the blue plastic remains on the floor. Ordered a replacement which took a minute to fit thanks to the links and then it was done.

So the solution was to buy a little blue plastic component off Autolink as highlighted by Rhino666 (LA01). Sorted!

Cheers!
