Clicky Clutch

My new ride, which I bought a month or so ago, had a new clutch in November last year.

The car is great, but one issue it has is that the clutch has one click when pressed in to change gear. It is definately from the pedal and nothing else, as I can feel very clearly.

Any ideas as to the problem and cost to resolve?

Thanks.

There are a few things which can cause this.
Whilst I don’t fully recall the exact scenario, one of the issues is where a switch (or similar) breaks through a hole somewhere on the pedal assembly. So each time you press the clutch, the switch pops in and out of this hole.
Another is the bushings on the clutch pedal,
And I believe there is a known fault where the pedal box can crack (maybe this was on a different car forum)

Mine has a little click every now and then, not on every press of the clutch, maybe 1 in 10, and only started after I messed about adjusting the clutch push rod.

Is it something to be worried about do you think? It seems to happen when I press the clutch from a slight angle rather than straight on. Just concerned it may be doing some expensive damage if I dont get it sorted.

Connected to the pedal is the steel rod which pushes on the slave cylinder.
I’ve a theory with mine that the ball and socket (rod end to slave cylinder), would benefit from a small dollop of grease.
However, this involves a lot of back bending work, so I’ve never bothered with it.

I can’t really comment on yours though, you’d need to try and get under the dash and see if you can spot anything going on when you push the pedal.

Pretty much covers everything I’ve said.

That does seem to cover it Keat63. It seems to be exactly my problem. Looks like it is not too expensive to put right. Perhaps a quick trip to Mazda to realign.

The secret is to have a support for your posterior outside of the car and level with the sill, I use a padded seat borrowed from our bathroom.

Push the driver’s seat as far back as it will go and slide in on your back hands first, with all the tools and work light already in place.

I suggest using a mobile to take some photos of the pedal box, rods and levers etc, to get a good idea of what is in there before attempting any work.

Clutch push rod adjustment and pivots, close-up view equivalent to head on floor, pedal in face, looking up at it.

When my MX5 developed this problem it was a broken clutch pedal bump stop. I noticed a few bits of broken plastic in the footwell, the clutch clicked every time it was depressed which it had never done before. I googled it, bought a new bump stop and replaced it. Easy fix if that is the issue. There is also a You Tube video about it. Could be worth checking to see if that is the problem.
Edit - * just seen that you have the issue sporadically so probably not the same problem!

Unfortunately I cant even hang a picture on the wall, my DIY is terrible. Looks like it will be an easy fix though.
