Climate control sleepiness?

2006 NC Sport, soft top.

Hiya. Does anyone else with an NC sport with climate control have the following issue?

I tend to leave it on Auto/Auto, so that the car automagically reaches and keeps the preferred temperature all the time, rain, shine, hot, or cold. (I only adjust this, to blow on the windscreen specifically when it need defrosting, or demisting, and then put it back to Auto/Auto) - after all, this is the beauty of climate control over plain AC - maintaining a specific temperature by heating OR cooling, whichever is necessary.

Mine has worked pretty well for the past four or so years, but these days it sometimes needs waking up by manually putting the blower on high, or pushing the temp down to its coldest to “wake it up” if that makes sense, and then is seems to work fine. (I had the AC gas recharged a few years back)

Does anyone else have this? Could it be something to do with the cabin thermostat that must be located somewhere? Maybe it needs cleaning??

Anyone know this woe?

A regas a few years ago may suggest it’s time to do it again🤔

Yes. As MickAP suggests, check the A/C gas.

Not had this happen on mine but your not supposed to leave the left hand knob on Auto when you have the top down. There is a legend around the knob showing the positions that work with roof down. If I leave mine on Auto with roof down it does seem to confuse the AC. I usually set it to face and feet vents.

I initially read that as “there’s a legend…” and I’m thinking us MX5er’s are a superstitious lot :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I don’t actually put the roof down a lot - i know, i know, I get dirty looks from you lot all the time (not got the skin for too much sun unfortunately). I guess I’ll get a re-gas.

How often do people feel that’s needed?
