COAST TO COAST RUN 18/19/20 JUNE

CHANGE OF PLAN

Sorry but there seems to be a wedding on in Masham that Saturday and all rooms are being taken fast, so it’s going to be Richmond instead, just North of Masham.

I have booked myself in to the Seacotes hotel in St Bees, and have held 5 rooms for others, so if you intend coming on this trip trip i strongly advise you to book soonest, the rate is £60 for the double room and £8.50 per person for b/fast.    At the earliest opportunity please contact the Seacote Hotel (01946 822 300) to book your accommodation for the Friday night. There is currently plenty of room. http://www.seacote.com/Hotel/index.htm

The Bed and Breakfasts in <st1:city w:st=“on”><st1:place w:st=“on”>Richmond</st1:place></st1:city> tend to be quite small. A search on www.yell.com will bring up a substantial list, as will any other B&B search engine. As long as it’s in <st1:city w:st=“on”>Richmond</st1:city> (<st1:place w:st=“on”>Yorkshire</st1:place>!!) you’re fine. Parking can be tight, so it’s worth asking about this when booking.

but if you want to pay to be in the center then there are rooms available, at a price. I am booked into the bridgedown house, but they are now full, again i suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.

Hi all,

I’m planning to run a driving weekend mid June. The break will be over 3 days and will be done using scenic roads. The agenda will be roughly as follows:-

Friday 18th early pm - drive to St Bee’s in the <st1:place w:st=“on”>Lake District</st1:place>. Stay the night.
Saturday 19th - drive to Richmond, <st1:place w:st=“on”>North Yorkshire</st1:place> stay the night.
Sunday 20th - drive to Robin Hood’s Bay nr <st1:place w:st=“on”><st1:city w:st=“on”>Whitby</st1:city></st1:place>, then home.

This is an extension of our previous Muker runs, so those of you who made those runs will have an idea of the roads and scenery that awaits us.<o:p></o:p>

Please be aware that it is a driving weekend, so you will spend a majority of it in your car, however it is broken up with plenty of stops and the drives involve stunning scenery.

There will be a restriction on numbers. app 12 cars

The date has now been confirmed as 18th to 20th June inclusive.

Please post if you're interested to give me an idea on numbers. I'll firm up details over the coming months.

 Hi Pete,

What time do you propose to set off, should Lesley book a half or full day of work?

If you don’t mind an area imposter joing you I’ll see you in Masham Sunday am and follow to RHB, lovely routes across the Moors…

That’ll be my last chance for a run out before I work overseas for a few months so will make a nice ending to my ‘season’.

Burton, i was thinking of about 5/6pm, fast run up to St Bees, that way folk dont have to put anytime off work. But as soon as i know who is coming etc, we can always leave mid afternoon, and have a leisurely drive up.

Hi Peleton, dont mind if you tag along at all, more the merrier, hope to see you at Masham on Sunday morning.

Pete

I may pop over on the Sunday too if that’s OK. Will depend on whether our Hamlet BBQ is on that day. I have missed the last two so will have to attend if it happens to be on that Sunday.

Looks like a fantastic run, I’m jealous!

Are you doing the Roadster Run on 4/4 despite it being Easter Sunday?  If so I shall try to join you!

ive just wrote this on our calendar. if im not working saturday night (network rail) and you guys dont mind us tagging along, we’ll hopefully see you in Masham.

according to AA Autoroute it is 214 miles round trip

i presume you will have a meting place arranged

thanks

Ady n Rita

 Hi Ady,

no don’t mind at all you tagging along Sat night, but if you notice i have amended the stop over to Richmond, for the reason above. But by all means come along, as yet i am still waiting for my members to confirm, so have not yet decided on a meeting restaurant/pub, but as Richmond is so small i am sure we will manage to find each other easily, but i will post on here where we decide to have our evening meal.

look forward to seeing you Saturday.

regards

Pete

 Hi All,

latest update on the run, due to the distance to St Bees for our first overnight stop, I think we should be leaving at 3pm, apologies to anyone unable to make this start time, though we can still meet up at the hotel later that night, or early next morning.

so the meeting place is Tay Barns, Maple rd, Barnsley, S75 3DL

2-30pm for a 3pm depart. There are toilets, fuel and a Mcdonalds for coffee and snacks before we leave all at this venue.

I intend to take this route to St Bees, being fast for the first half, then scenic round a lake or two later: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=110390696720690478050.00048204ab1f73a6c1d19&ll=54.262016,-2.081909&spn=1.678007,4.927368&t=h&z=8&iwloc=00048204ab21d6a429261

Then Saturday morning head towards Windermere through Hardknott pass; http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=110390696720690478050.000482059e3487c111623&ll=54.420515,-3.27279&spn=0.417886,1.231842&t=h&z=10

Take a ferry across to Bowness-on-Windermere, then on to Richmond through Buttertubs pass, and Swaledale. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=110390696720690478050.00048205b434542368d01&ll=54.310916,-2.094269&spn=0.419003,1.231842&t=h&z=10

have a leisurely afternoon/evening in Richmond, meal and a few drinks, then next morning off to Robin Hoods bay, through the North Yorks moors, down the Rosedale chimney and through Goathland( Heartbeat) By this time we should be following (Jon) Peleton, who has kindly offered to lead us on this leg after meeting us at Helmsley. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=110390696720690478050.00047f465a4a232df3044&ll=54.354155,-1.138458&spn=0.418563,1.231842&t=h&z=10

after spending the rest of the day in and around the Bay, everyone is free to make their own way back whenever they like, or follow me in convoy, either fast route or scenic.

I just hope all these links work now, of course we will be having comfort stops as and when, and lunches on the way, and of course photo stops when required. hope the weather holds out for us, and hope to see you all either at Tay Barns or St Bees.

regards

Pete

 Hi All,

The plan for Saturday evening is to have a few cheap drinks in Weatherspoons, www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/home/pubs/the-ralph-fitz-randal from 6pm ish, then on to www.blacklionhotelrichmond.co.uk for 7.30 to 8pm to eat upstairs in the Bistro, or if you prefer downstairs in the pub. I am awaiting a menu coming so we can pre order.

We will also be calling in at Tan Hill maybe for lunch or just a comfort stop and coffee, as the road is too good to miss as we are passing.

any more news will be posted as and when

see you all later

Pete

A quick bump to get this back into peoples memories…

Any fine Yorkshiremen fancy hopping along? I’m hoping PollyAnna will make it. Meeting point just East of Helmsley for the bimble across to Robin Hoods Bay.

wouldn’t you believe it, im working saturday night (god damn network rail) but we are hoping to meet you guys sat morning and have a blast around with you til early/mid afternoon saturday. then make our way home.

hope this is still ok with you all

Ady n Rita

you can see from my route where we will be leaving from and which way we will be going,

if you could give me a bell nearer the time or on the day itself about where you want to join us my number is 07872640633

we intend to arrive in Richmond mid afternoon, then settle down for the night

look forward to seeing you on the day

regards

Pete

thanks pete. we hopefully should be joining you saturday morning when you set off from your hotel (fingers crossed). its going to be an early start for us, 170 mles and 3 1/2 hoursShock. but im sure it’ll be worth it. . i will give you a bell nearer the time to confirm our attendance. what time roughly will you be setting off from the hotel, any ideas as yet?

Ady n Rita

 Hi Ady,

I would imagine we would be leaving after a leisurely breakfast about 9-9.30,

after all it is not a race, and we are not tied to a strict timetable,

we will be heading back south then up the hardknott pass to ambleside, if you are running late mate.

look forward to seeing you sometime Saturday, i hope it will be worth it for you too, no pressure then ?? !! LOL

Pete and Stella

 Hi All,

quick update for Pollyanna or anyone else meeting us on Sunday, we intend to meet up with  Jon ( Peleton) at Beadlam grange farm and tea shop, just east of Helmsley at about 10-30 ish, from where he will be leading us to Robin hoods bay.

stopping for lunch in the pretty little picturesque village of Hutton Le Hole, at the Crown pub,

Look forward to seeing you there.
