Is the NC cobalt exhaust only supplied by Moss Europe? I’ve messaged them several times as it’s always out of stock but never hear from them.
I’ve not seen the elsewhere for sale, have you tried any other method, Facebook, twitter if they have such media accounts?
They had a lot of issues like most companies with stock during the height of the Covid 19 pandemic. About 6 months ago that stock came through but sold out pretty quickly. The demand is high and the production low.
Last time it took them about 1-1.5 years to get them so who knows. I found one on this website but after fitting it I found it was not very noticeable anyway but that might be because my mx5 was a hard top and blocked some of the noise.
I’m really just about ready for a new exhaust as mine is getting a bit 'Buzzy" now. The cobalt seems to be the obvious one for not being intrusive. That’s ideal for me as I do quite a few long trips.
Yeah they’re like rocking horse ■■■■… I managed to get hold of mine before the pandemic ruined it for everyone
I know what you mean, for months I was trying to find a Cobalt for my ND… I set up alerts on eBay and about a month ago I struck gold… £170 for mint one, barely touched… Loving the sound, just the right balance
Just an update on this. I was eating lunch and thought I’d have a look on Moss Europe and they are in stock.
Ordered.
let’s see a picture please!
I’m a bit OCD on fitment so it would be nice to see how far out they poke
Its not on the car yet unfortunately as I
m working. Will get around to some pics when it`s on though.
I’ve got a new one in a box ready to fit when the weather gets bad.
The stock box is bigger and has a shortish 3-inch pipe to the mid-pipe flange compared with the Cobalt, which has a pipe exiting the side of the back box - so it appears about 3 inches longer here. It looks no more than a half inch longer from box centre line to the back of the tail pipe.
My stock pipe ends a couple of inches in from the curved cut out in the bumper. I’m expecting the Cobalt to stick out a couple of inches or vertically in line with the curvey change in bumper line.
The YouTube Cobalt noise vids look about right and it might jut out as much as the BBR pic on the “subtle mods” thread a short scroll down.
On my NC1 (now sold) I fitted the Cobalt.
It was much admired and people asking what is it and where from
I put one on my NC1 about six months ago, I really like it, being of a certain age I didn’t want something to rattle the neighbour’s windows!! This is a lower tone than standard with a bit of a growl and coming off hard throttle I have had the occasional nice little ‘wufffle’ which makes me smile
At long last I’ve got the the Cobalt exhaust fitted today. Looks good and I’m happy with the fact it doesn’t stick out under the car like some other back boxes I’ve seen.
Sound wise it’s early days but definitely a bit deeper especially on start up and when lifting off going downhill.
Not been on a long run yet (will at the weekend) so will report back. I’m sure with a bit of a good run to carbon it up a bit and it will be as good as I hoped. And by that I mean non intrusive and low key.
Mines been on since November so I’ve not done more than 1000 miles with it. It gets better with mileage.
Hard top on it’s obvious but not intrusive at any speeds. With top down it gives a bit of boom under 1500 rpm. I wonder if it resonates with the frequency of the “piped music” from the inlet manifold. I might blank the induction noise off to see.
Oddly enough it sounds even better if you are watching someone else driving it, as I did when it was test driven up the road and back by the mechanic who overhauled my sticky brake.
Sounds more like a sports car now - especially approaching 7000 rpm.
I got rid of my sound tube some while ago. It definately sounds better than the old OEM one which had loose baffles in it which resonated as you were pulling away… Problem is I have a 6cyl Boxster which sounds fantastic and an old 6cyl M3 which also has some good noises from the rear so the little 4 pot doesn’t really stand much of a chance with that.
I’ve now done around 550 miles since fitting including 400+ on the motorway. When I first set off before doing that trip it was a little noisy when just on slight throttle at about 70MPH. Especially if going up a slight incline… I can now say that it’s really not much louder from inside the car and just a little fruitier when you’re stood next to it,
Very happy as that’s exactly what I wanted.
