Cobalt or mx5 parts back box

Thoughts please on these 2 back boxes will eventually get one of them but I can’t decide which one sounds better, it will be on a standard setup apart from a pipercross induction kit, Cobalt seems to be cheaper at the moment but I wouldn’t mind paying a little more if it’s a better note and quality should have said it’s a mk2.5 1.8l

I’m considering a cobalt rear box for my 2.5. There’s a company based in Bristol selling them for £132 on eBay

I have the Cobalt cat back system on my 1.8 NA.  Fitted it myself easily.  Quality is superb. Noise is fairly unobtrusive if you want it to be, makes a glorious but not ridiculous soundtrack if you cane it.  Drones a bit at 3k RPM - which is around 60 - but i can drive through it. Only negatives (to me) are slightly scene-kid connotations with the size of the exit pipe - and a tacky placky sticker on said pipe, which peels off easily enough.

Cobalt on my Mk3.5  

I trust you’ve seen the sale prices at Moss-Europe for the Cobalt. I have the Mk3 (twin exit) fitted and find it great, not too loud but still provides good sporty note. I believe the Mk2 version is also great reading reviews.

I fitted an Mx5parts back box to my Mk2 (now sold) again an excellent addition well made with just that sporty note without being too loud. They usually have a sale at the rally (coming up next month) around 15% discount but of course you have to attend and buy at the rally.

 

I’m in no particular rush to buy one so will have a look at the rally. Silly question,will it fit in the boot for the journey home?

Moss has seriously slashed their prices for the Cobalt exhaust. Not sure how long that will be the case but I’d bet they’re cheaper than the MX5 Parts one.

I had a single exit one on my NB. Loved the look and the sound. Now have a dual exit one on my NC3.5. Sounds even better! Yes, the exit pipes are little larger but I think they suit the car. I’ve seen far worse on boy racer cars.

Just found the Moss one (part number 900 565) online. £132. Same as the MX5 one,if I’ve been looking at the right piece

Usually you order at the rally, pays your money and they deliver it. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, it’s free delivery too, if i remember mine was.

I have a 1.8 mk 2.5, with the Cobalt, bought last year from Moss when they had 40% off. I find it perfect, subtle when driven gently (happy wife), but like H1S VRB says, a glorious sound if you’re heavy with the loud pedal (happy me).

I have 421 manifold decat pipe and cobalt rear section on my na here’s a little video to give an idea of the sound

I’m also leaning towards the Cobalt now and a centre pipe will have to wait a while longer!

I have the cobalt on my 2.0 MK3. It looks great, and sounds spot on.

It’s not too loud. Inside the cab at cruising speeds, you wouldn’t know it was any different.

Under hard acceleration at lower speeds, it has a nice sporty sound.

 

If anything, it is a little boomy around 2000 rpm, the sort of rev range coming in and going out of my estate, but no where near as loud as the boy racers up the street.
