Oh No, another nube! . . . Hi all, I’ve just joined the happy world of MX5 ownership with a 1998 Mk2 1.8i S and haven’t stopped grinning since.
Although the car is in excellent condition and has obviously been previously owned by enthusiasts, it came to me with only one ignition key, one remote fob and two override touch keys. Worst of all there are no instuction/owners manual to the fitted Cobra 7915 alarm unit within the reams of supporting documentation that came with it. I am assuming that the Cobra unit was fitted at birth because it has that “Factory Fitted” look even down to the neat way that the touch key contact has been installed in the back of the arm rest, but I could be wrong.
Everthing is hunky dory at the moment but it bothers me that I know nothing about the alarm system in the event of a problem whilst miles from home and that losing either my only key or fob would soon put an end to the grin factor.
So to the questions . . . Does anyone here have any experience of these units as I was hoping to be able to get a hold of a spare fob for the 7915 but I cannot find any sort of information for it either on this forum, or ont tinternet. Secondly, are the keys on the Mk2 chipped and if so are spare keys still available?
Any help or advice will be gratefully received, even if its only to say junk it and buy a new one!
