Hi all, new Cobra Race back box has arrived Today.
Just wanted to ask a couple of questions regarding fitting.
1, the instructions say to use high temp silicone on joints however I have read this may cause problems with getting joints clean in the future.
- Size of bolts on flange. They seem to be M10 or M12
3, is it better to buy an OEM flange gasket or is the supplied one ok to use .
I have been spraying the bolts and hangers hoping to get off without to make trouble although will cut bolts on if they dont move. I will try and take pictures as I go and put them on here.
thanks Dave
Back the car up on ramps then undo the two 10mm bolts and use a good quality 17mm ring spanner or hex socket then squirt the hanger rubbers with washing up liquid and wriggle the hangers off, job takes 10-15mins your original gasket should be ok to re-use.
Just don’t drop the backbox on your head.
Thanks both. Have been spraying bolts so hopefully won’t need cutting off. Good point about not dropping box. cheers
Hi Dave
Hope the fitting goes well. Please let me know how it sounds as torn between the Cobra Race back box and the Go-Perform one.
Thanks Steve.
Good luck with the nuts; mine were all rounded, had to grind off

hi Steve sorry for the delay in responding I’ll add an audio file when I get back home at the weekend I don’t think the race box is to loud,I do have the rest of the system standard though Due to time I took the car and exhaust to our local walkers to fit Only charged £30 to fit
cheers Dave
No worries Dave. That would be great thanks. I think that would be my first step too. Back box first, then the induction kit, then the manifold and sports cat.
Cheers Steve.
Hi guys…being new to the forum and OC, I have just fitted a Cobalt back box which sounds nice with a deep growl…just wondering about taking the middle out from the CAT back to the rear silencer…anyone had experience on how loud it will be or any recommendations?..cheers (2003 Mk2.5)
