Last of the season’s Mid Week Runs and given it’s October with variable weather the plan is for some decent driving with more exploring time indoors.
Meet 9.15am for 9.30am start at Taverham Garden Centre, NR8 6HT, on area to left after entrance.
Just under an hour’s run for coffee at The Old Reading Room (this place is a gem) eta 10.15am. Depart 11am to the seaside at Sheringham, NR26 8LE. Park up and short walk on the ‘prom’ to the small but delightful Fishermen’s Lifeboat museum and Shell gallery at 11.45am (donations, vee have vays to make u pay). This is a volunteers only place and they will be opening up for us so £5/car is minimum please. Then almost next door we’ll visit Sheringham museum (£5 each) at approx. 12.15pm. In addition to the town’s history, etc there is the Information Centre for Sheringham Shoal Windfarm with displays and videos showing the construction of the turbines, information on how they work.
Then 1.45pm lunch at The Lobster. Choose from the main menu on the day. Here are a few examples; fish & chips £16, Hunters Chicken £15.50, Mushroom Wellington £14.50. Slight change but I was not prepared to pay a deposity re Set menu. Weather looks poor for Wednesday 9th and it may even come to cancelling in which case I’ve lost the deposit.
Afterwards walk (maybe stagger) back to our ‘Fives’.
Return run which I’ll plan to the A1270 Broadland Northway (ex-NDR) Norwich then folk can peel off or carry on for home.
Pete,
NC500 - Shieldaig north and along the ‘top’ towards Thurso was great to drive.
Standout places; Orkneys plus Lewis & Harris. Thanks for asking.
Will add you to list in a moment.
David
In spite of dubious forecast and rain on our outward run this was a good day. Sun shone on us at Sheringham after a lovely coffee stop in Kelling.
Fisherman’s Museum looked after us very well and thenit was on to The Lobster Inn for lunch. On the return run some of us even dared to go hoods down which turned out well. As last mid week run of the year my thanks go to all those who supported these little adventures.
David
Dear David, A lovely end to the wonderful trips that you have organised this year. Looking forward to the 2025 trips! Thank you so much for all your efforts to make them such a success. It puts a gloss on us having our MX5. Kevin & Tamsin.
Well, this was a very fitting finale to the ‘24 season of mid-week runs, even though the weather gods weren’t looking after us on the outbound journey. Thanks David for all your very hard effort in planning and organising this set of runs. Looking forward to what’s in store for 2025; it will be a hard act to follow this year’s selection.
All the best, Laurie
Thanks David for another great day out. Really appreciate the the amount of work you put in to ensure the variety of interesting places from your list.
