Meeting at Lidl, Poppy Way, Postwick NR13 5HB at 9.15am for 9.30am departure with about a 25 mins run to Coltishall RAF Heritage Museum. PS. ROUTE USES NORFOLK’S TAKE ON WHAT IS A ‘DUAL CARRIAGEWAY’.
The activities and exhibits take visitors on a journey through the station’s role in the Battle of Britain up to finding its place in modern warfare, becoming home to the Lightning and Jaguar aircraft of the Cold and Gulf War eras.
Following our visit the pub just down the road will provide coffee & breakfast (inc vegan). Once folk have fuelled up we shall head to How Hill.
Re. How Hill - around 1900, Edward Thomas Boardman, a prominent Norwich architect, seeking a country retreat, purchased some 800 acres of marsh, pasture and farmland bordering the River Ant. Boardman’s ‘arts and crafts’ house was built in 1905. The grounds consist of formal gardens adjacent to the house, woodland and the ‘secret garden’. Today the How Hill Trust an environmental educational charity owns and runs the site offering special family events, adult courses, residential courses for schools and youth organisations.
We will make our way through the woodland to the Secret Garden where maybe a Swallowtail butterfly can be sighted. Later, if they are open, we can explore the formal garden.
Refreshments are no longer available here so we shall press on to another venue for tea and cake.
Finally a 30mins home run to Postwick junction of NDR/A47 on B roads avoiding the A47. Members can peel off en-route or find a more direct route for home.
Paul, well if you will persist in having holidays maybe I should organise a European Tour and then folk get a holiday included so to speak. Hopefully see you in September as I’ve no August mid week run. D
Oh dear another faithful , you must let me know your whereabouts on these weds then I can build in a pick up point, umm London you say, perhaps That’s a run too far. see you soon. D
So sorry I can’t join you for this one David but my sister is coming to Norfolk next week and whilst she loves riding in the MX she definitely wouldn’t like the RAF HC. Hopefully I’ll make the next one. Richard W.
