This would be close to the ideal scenario but I think a long shot. Whenever I work on my cars, I like to do a thorough job and replace fixings where required (which seems to add up to around 10% of the rest of the parts). You guys all know how much grief seized bolts can be on these cars can cause. At this point, I imagine anything the dealer or their garage will do will be with a petted lip so if their suggestion is to provide the labour, I’m hesitant to make it too easy for them. I do however want the car buttoned up correctly.
I’d like for them to contribute £1000 but I doubt I’ll get it. I didn’t pay bottom dollar for “a stunning example” which flew through their inspection with no advisories so I think there’s still room for the dealer to come out OK on this. The NC is parked up on the driveway at the moment and I’m driving my other, much older car with confidence instead.
I am exactly the same.
If they suggest providing labour, then the advantage of the car lift, correct tools etc as well as the “professional” to do the work is worth a fair bit. You could also offer to help out whilst keeping an eye on things.
£2450 spent on parts last week from 5 different sellers including the ZetaSports, plus some good blades for the saw, Plusgas for fixings and POR15 for the new arms. Had to split some quantities of items between sellers as not all had stock so not all at the best price. BOFI arriving today (next day, impressive), MX5Parts still haven’t taken the money, went for the MX5Restorer subframe braces. Majority of arms were from MX5City. Autolink were great with Andrew getting what he had together and out to me quickly.
MX-5 getting inspected Thursday and my other car MOT on Friday then I’m off on a short break Saturday. Hoping to have time before I leave to soak the bolts in Plusgas and possibly start works before I go back to work.
Edit: MX5Parts had the subframe bolts on back order so were holding the rest - quick email and the bits in stock released. Expected another month for the subframe bolts but they got them out to me a week later. All round impressed with the service from each of the suppliers.
Came to a satisfactory resolution with the dealer today, enough to cover the cost of the wheel refurb and new tyres since I’ve already bought everything else needed to get it sorted for now. They did try to negotiate but I had requested what I thought was a modest contribution towards what I’d spent already and the only further negotiation I was interested in was in my favour, not theirs.
That’s not a bad outcome! Glad you got something in the end, this is more than I would have hoped for.
Would be nice to get to enjoy your car the way it is meant to be!
That’s it, something in the end (nowhere near the £1000 I ambitiously hoped for initially but that’s OK) means I can start looking forward to enjoying the car.
I’m not a difficult customer but I didn’t want to be constantly looking at the car thinking “have I made a mistake?” - I’m happy the dealer has been approachable and allowed the discussion in the first place. I get to look forward now and, honestly, can’t wait for the adventures ahead.
