Coolant dribble

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NB
  2. I’m based near: __
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Coolant hose leak

I Have a tiny leak, no real loss on coolant as yet, dribbles down a little bit. Would like to address it before it does become an issue.

Any gotchas to look out for if I pull this pipe off after draining the coolant? Is a jubilee clip any better?

Take great care, those two metal pipes can be very brittle! Many past threads on the topic.

Break it and maybe a new heater is required, unless you can repair the pipe. Good soldering skills?

Nice one Richard. Best practice is using a fresh super sharp blade, is to very very carefully cut them to the bone from the bulkhead forwards, and thus split them to sufficientluy NOT disturb the pipes. When fitting the new ones, use slippy stuff eg gasket seal and very very very gingerly reapply the circlips.
After which have an epic roll and haggis with Lorne sausidge & a Tetley tea.

I believe the problem with jubilee clips is they tend to go oval when being tightened but the oem clips are better at maintaining even pressure around the hose.

Oh dear. I might just try moving the clip slightly closer to the bulkead then. It is only a tiny dribble at this point.

Is it leaking inside the car too?

Not that I can tell, but struggling to get my hand up there.

If it was the footwell carpet would be damp/wet..

Icarpet is not wet, but hoestly the leak in the bulkhead is so slight, if it was the same inside you’d never know.

Gonna try “Plummers Tape For Everything” around the joint and see.
