Coolant hose advice

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2007 2.0 sport
  2. I’m based near: Guildford/ Farnham
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: coolant hoses

Hi all,

Seems like I’m posting every other day at the moment lol.

I was doing a coolant flush and thermostat replacement today. All good until I tried reconnecting the hoses to the new thermostat.

The larger hose (which I believe is the lower radiator hose but please correct me if I’m wrong here) goes on fine but the spring clip just will not go over to secure it in place onto the thermostat.

Ordered some new clips to see if that solves the problem but wanted some advice about:

a - whether it is actually the lower radiator hose
b - whether it’s worth just replacing the full hose at this point
c - what on earth they actually look like. This is the first coolant thing I’ve done on any car I’ve owned so I’m a bit lost with all the different aftermarket parts you can get now.

Cheers!

This hose to thermostat, are you aware there are two lengths of thermostat ?

Just use decent t worm drive type fastenings.

Replacement of hose is your choice, is the hose good for another few years ?

Silicon hoses (as above) are available but can be costly.

That’s the one, I’ve got worm clips turning up today, can’t stand those spring ones myself. Aware of the two different lengths of thermostats, I have got the right one :+1:t2:

Reckon the hose is probably good for quite a while yet so ideally I wouldn’t replace it just yet.

Cheers
