Copper Grease?

Hi

Hope to change the front pads this weekend and was wondering (I’ve never used copper grease before) where would you put or not put copper grease on the pads etc.

Thanks all

Smear a thin layer of copper grease on the back of the pads, make sure not to get any on the friction material.

It has always worked for me. Copper Ease tends to dry out and become “cakey” after a while which makes it ideal for this application. I also use a smear on the edges of the pads in floating caliper applications as it stops the pads from sticking in the caliper guides.

You can get some blue goo from the likes of Bendix which is a purpose made anti-sqeal paste for brake pads but Copper Ease or similar is a worthy substitute.

HHHHMMMMMMM…copper slip

i’ve changed my front discs and pads today along with a full brake fluid change, i used STD discs and GREENSTUFF PADS and DOT5 fluid, altho not bedded in yet, i can feel the difference already the brakes are more responsive and smooter in my opinion (might be like the U/L… S/U/L petrol questions) altho i did strip virtually all the carriers and slides down and thoroughly de-grease the components, used a small smearing of grease on the back of the pads and on the “shoulders” of the pads, i also used lithium grease on the slider pins/bolts and they move so much better, unlike the “copper gundge” that was in there, obviously from the copper grease used previously, the carries came off with a couple of bolt and the amout of “cack” hidden away was amazing, obviously whoever replaced the pads all the times previous, didn’t do this,  so a wire brush on a drill was used and they slid well before, but now so so much better.

I also adjusted the handbrake whilst i was at it to, thanks to the guide i found on here (CHEERS GUYS)…

My car, altho pads only having done 15miles or so, had NEVER stopped so well, i totally recommend a strip down and clean.

Thanks everyone some great info, will get some CG for the weekend. Next job is to bleed the system. A little concerned about the amount of rust around the bleed nipples, it doesn’t look like they haven’t been bleed for years. I have some Rost Off Ice hope this will do the job and free them ok.

Is it worth buying what I think are called “Speed Bleeders” and if I do change them can I use say a pair of mole grips to clamp the brake fluid pipe?

Thanks All
