Got my new Haynes manual yesterday so light reading in the evening. My own car is a 2014 2.0 model and has always been serviced using Mobil fully synthetic 5W/30
Haynes says this should be for pre 2011 cars; after that use 0W/30
Handbook seems to say optional; now confused!
Any advice gratefully received
I’d go with the handbook rather than a third party information source. Either will be absolutely fine. The important thing is that both are 30 at the hot end so protect the engine properly. 0W30 will be slightly less viscous when cold than 5W30 so will provide slightly better/quicker lubrication after a cold start. The general move to low viscosity oils is intended to improve fuel economy.
