Corroded cooling pipe

Currently working with my son on his 1990 Mazda Eunos and we are replacing the water pump and camshaft timing belt this weekend. One of the metal pipes has corroded and lost the beading. It is part of the engine block.  What is the best way to fix this?

corroded pipe

Expensive to replace new. Second hand is it any better than yours?

Depending on where it’s holed, I’ve seen them cut off and a pipe slipped over the stub and secured with a jubilee clip. I’ve also seen some where people have removed the pipe completeley, drilled out the hole, tapped a thread in it and used a banjo bolt type fitting on it. It depends on your abilities really.

edit, do you mean that it’s lost the top part of the pipe? (Photo is very distorted on my screen). I wouldn’t be too worried about it if that’s the case and the rest of the pipe is sound.

You would need to replace front crank oil seal by the look of it? Be careful to mark the woodruff key as it has very slight taper on one side AND one end only and needs to be fitted correctly.Otherwise crank will wear/loosen etc.Tippex or pin punch etc

The photo is distorted so hard to see exactly but looks like there is enough to slide on the hose and clip etc.

Yes, forum s/w has distorted image (not sure why) but if you right-click on image and ‘view image’ you will see it correctly.

I wasn’t aware that this pipe was part of a removable piece, bolted onto the engine. I’m tempted to just replace it then as it was leaking slightly before we started work and will only get worse. I’ll have a look today as we are now ready to replace the water pump.

In the scheme of things, another £90+ is not an issue. Only paid £1100 for the car and have spent another £1500+ on parts and upgrades so far. It’s going to get a hammering on track, so I want all the fixes to be reliable. I bought the car for my son to learn on as he is 17 and doing a motor mechanics course. This is his practical exam

Now got it off and the other ends look quite corroded too. going to replace this part.
