Cracked BBS alloy

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2007 Z sport MX5
  2. I’m based near: Essex
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Is there anyone that can point me in the direction of a second hand z sport alloy or someone that does welding repairs on cracked spokes as I’ve had no luck so far

Can’t recommend anywhere, plenty of suggestions on the forum about places to go but have you approached anywhere about having that crack fixed? I know they can work wonders nowadays with alloys, getting a replacement will be pretty costly on those alloys new or SH.

Also be aware that BBS have recently gone bust - again - although I think they are still trading for now.
It could affect future supply.

I think second hand is your only option now as even MX5 Parts are out of stock. Mind you, you could buy a nice set of four wheels for the price of a new Z Sport rim.

Always was the issue with these alloys.
Absolute jewels as was the entire Ltd Ed car and as such Unicorn Pooh to try and locate now.
£800.00 per at Mx5 Parts…(cough)

You cannot repair a wheel with cracked spokes, they flex way too much and it would be broken again very quickly, followed by the others shortly after.

Maybe put an offer on these, seems like a good deal. Then put your tyres on these wheels. These are not my items or anything, I just found them looking the other day.

If the Z wheels are known for cracks then maybe you will have some luck selling them as singles. I wouldn’t say they suited the mx5 very well anyway :stuck_out_tongue:
