I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __
I’m looking to test/replace mine. Assumed taking of the bottom bash cover would give access. After removing over thirty fasteners it’s off but it’s still inaccessible. Hope the following video saves others the bother
Okay, let’s get serious here. Removing/replacing the CKS (crank position sensor) is a bit of a fiddle. Anyone who has been there should find the following Mellon instructions a little idealistic with the engine in the car!
In practise I tried to align the CKS and pulley wheel with a mirror but you can’t get an angle with even a small mirror to give a reliable result. The only accurate way was using a mobile phone to get a properly aligned image.
I also tried to set TDC with the the old-time stick down the hole in cylinder one but wasn’t really happy with the result, especially given the accuracy the Mellen screenshot implies! How you are supposed to scribe a line across the crank pully with the engine in the car is just silliness.
Anyways I’ve been looking for what Mellens calls an SST without any success. It’s the bolt that screws into the crankcase just below and behind the crankshaft sensor to indicate when the crankshaft is at TDC. The following video shows it….
