Creaking Suspenders !?

Oooh err missus, really !

A stupid dumb question. Anybody else experienced this before ?

Firstly, the car is a '95 Eunos Roadster 1.8 NA VR Combination 1 (in a luverleeeee shade of Merlot !)

My front suspension (or so it seems ?) creaks and grumbles when the car’s moving. Obviously I can only hear this at slow speed (!!) so I’m suspecting it’s maybe top mounts groaning as the steering is moved. This noise can also be induced with a little bit of braking to get the nose to dive at slow speed.

Can the spring seats be lubed with silicon spray etc. ? Are the Top mounts knacjkered ? Any other ideas ? I hasten to add that I haven’t had the car up in the air to have a look yet, I’m just musing at my desk at work at present. BTW the car was one of Dandycars finest when I bought it recently so it’s got one of their Warranties on it, so if it’s anything worse it can always go back for a look see, even if getting it over to them in North London is a complete pain in the rear !

I’ve been around cars and motorsport for donkey’s years but never come across this sort of thing before that’s why I’m a bit confused and mystified (but then it could just be my age Wink )

I’m all ears.

Hi, your car has un-equal length double wishbone suspension all around, as such the top-mounts do not rotate as in a McPherson strut set-up, so you can rule that theory out Thumbs up

You could try squirting a bit of silicone rubber lube on your anti-roll bar mounting brackets front and rear, you could also squirt some of the same on your bottom damper mounts and also on the wish-bone bushes inner and outer, all should become quiet in a mile or two.

Which form of motorsport were/are you involved with?

Hi Dr Eunos

Apologies for appearing tardy at replying, yesterday was very busy day at work followed by a bit of a mission to get from Box Hill to The Oval in time for last nights T20 match.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll look in to this over the weekend and get my trusty tin of silicon spray out (worked a treat on the window runners) Smile I’ve also got a new Kenwood CD/Bluetooth/MP3 thingy to install too courtesy of Mr Halfords & an adaptor cable from MX-5 Parts.

I was involved in Rallying (still am in a sort of “official” basis) driving my own cars and then co-driving in some real gems through both ends of the spectrum - 6R4, Lotus Cortina, Nova, numerous Escorts etc.,etc.

I then migrated to sprinting & hillclimbing a Sylva Striker kit car powerd by a Honda Fireblade bike engine (conversion all my own work). I had loadsa fun with that and then traded up to a Global GT Light (single seat, sports race car, Yamaha R1 engine, chain drive to rear).

Back trouble intervened not long after I’d bought that so I eventually moved it on and thought about a road-going toy as a replacement. What should it be … MX-5 ? Caterham 7 ? another Striker ? Lotus Elise ? Well, the Global didn’t make as much as I thought Sad so I plumped for the MX-5 option, and I’m chuffed to bits with it. Probably the best bang for buck and smiles per hour available…and the bonus is, the wife likes it too ! Big Smile

Looking forward to many hours of endless pleasure in it too.

I’ll report back when I get under with my spray !

Thanks again. Thumbs up

Sorry if i have missed the answer to this question??/ but what dampers is she riding on.

 Hi There

I’m pretty certain it’s on Bilsteins. It’s a VR Combination A based on an S Special I believe and the sticker on the B post/door frame says Bilstein too.

As it happens I was thinking about popping on a set of GAZ fixed heights over the winter. Comments/thoughts on that would be nice too.

Cheers

 Have a look at the bushes in the damper at the bottom in the wishbone, on the billies the bushes can squash out making it rub/squeak{#emotions_dlg.thumb}

Shall do - Many thanks for your valued input Smile
