Ctek mxs 5.0 charger mode ND1 RF

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __RF LE 2017
  2. I’m based near: __north herts
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ctek charger mode

Hi all, tucking the mx5 in for winter and want to use ctek mxs5.0 to keep battery in good condition. I note the charger has an AGM setting. Does anyone know if the OEM batteries for RF launch edition are AGM?

What settings do others use with this charger during winter

Thanks

They are not AGM batteries, they are Enhanced Flooded Batteries (EFB). I’m not sure of the options on that charger but I’d just treat it as a normal flooded battery if that’s the only other option.

Lol, do you think that he nicked his thumb in the battery clamps?

I’ve been told by Ctek (Technical) that you are able to use the normal charging mode for AGM batteries with no detrimental effect. It just takes that little bit longer to charge. I hope this helps.

I can comment on this directly as I’ve an '18 ND1, and that very Ctek.
I’m not convinced it’s an EFB battery; mine says absolutely nothing on it regarding that.
Either way I just the use normal setting. I’ve used it for about 3 years with no issues. Never used any other mode, just set it up and plug it in. Still on the OEM battery (touch wood). Mine isn’t garaged, so I use it as needed- say once every 10 days or so in the winter if it hasn’t been driven due to salt. Charges up in an hour or so, as per the fully charged green light. A little tip- if yours seems to be dragging it’s feet a bit when charging, try just opening the boot and closing it. Somehow it seems to give it a kick and charges quicker. Don’t ask me why.

I don’t think that yours will be an EFB because your MX-5 doesn’t have I-Stop does it?

Just re-read my original reply, and to confirm, MX-5 without I-Stop will have a conventional flooded battery. With I-Stop has an EFB. No AGM batteries are fitted to ND.

Yes, the OP’s will be the same as mine. A '17 plate will have no start-stop. A ‘normal’ battery.

I have the same model car and the same charger, I’ve been using it on the standard battery setting for the 7 years I’ve had the car with no issues.

2016 ND Sport Recaro owner here and my car is currently connected to an MXS 5.0 on normal car mode. I’ve had no issues. My battery was a bit weak at one point so in the past I have removed it from the car and used the recondition option as well. I think my car is still on its original battery (I’m the second owner).
