Hello….. hope everyone is doing well. It’s good to be back… hope I didn’t upset anyone.
I’ve just collected a very beautiful NA and I’m super smitten. Despite it being a rust free example! And well looked after engine wise. The interior is very sad…. Like extremely sad. So I will be doing a huge overhaul. Let me see your modified interiors ? I’d like some inspiration please.
Mine needs new plastics all round, dash is cracked. Carpets ruined. Windows seals shot. Buttons missing ! It’s a sorry state !
The S-Limited I used to have. The console delete was by cutting down a tombstone, and refinishing in a light dusting of pickup bed paint; perfectly reproduced the original finish. Door cards were refinished with stretchy vinyl from Martrim.
I replaced tat part with a 95 Eunos Roadster tombstone; it has a wider radio opening allowing better fitment of the unit I picked up from Amazon. Mystery geat knob
Not exactly a direct parallel to yours, but here is my NB interior.(It needs to be cleaned in this picture) but my favored changes here are the Mazda 6 steering wheel, Porsche 914 seats and hybridized door panels(both need to be recovered, I am thinking blue houndstooth inserts). Any or all of them can be swapped to a NA. For that matter I believe transplanting the entire NB dash/console into an earlier car is possible if you want a slightly more modern dash.
I can’t take credit for the door panels, bought the car like that(honestly not a huge fan of Alcantra, if it were me I would have gone with leather or houndstooth, maybe a tartan plaid). That being said, if you have a sewing machine its pretty easy to diamond stitch as long as you have a steady hand and lay out your patterns well beforehand(I have done similar things on other projects). As for whether its worth the time? Probably not, better to employ an upholstery shop for that type of task unless you just enjoy projects and have the spare time.
Alternative alloys when it was discovered the the factory rims were suffering from alloy fatigue around the inner nut areas and deemed dangerous with hairline cracks.
I was shocked to say the least.
See I love the Alcantara if done right !! And diamond stitch. I shall be trying to this all by myself I can use a sewing machine so it’s all good!! I just don’t know which way to go !
