This morning was spent fitting a Pure Highway 600 to my NC1 PRHT.
I had wondered where to actually place the aerial so it wasn’t too unsightly.
Thought I would post here to say I found it fitted nicely in the speckled area just above the mirror and this helps tone down any intrusion into the viewable part of the screen. I really didn’t want to put it over in full view of the passenger.
Reception is very good - here in Surrey at least!
Although technically within the swept area, my local MOT centre said it would be fine on the painted area of screen. If not, then it’ll unplug …![Innocent Innocent]()
I took off the nearside A pillar trim and header trim to hide the cables. A really easy job.
The microphone is hidden under the flap of the driver’s sunshade. Just stuck it to the PRHT guide plate/bracket as it’s recessed there. Works fine with the shade up or down and completely out of sight with it up.
I am using the whole setup through the glovebox AUX IN and USB power which I fitted a few weeks ago in preparation and with my OEM headunit.
Viewed from the drivers eyeline…

… and taken from below. I still need to tweak the cables slightly but rain stopped play with the hardtop down!

Next part is to hide the controller in the centre console when I change the centre console tray for the one on MX5 Parts.

Hi
I’ve just bought the HiWay 600 to replace an old Pure unit I installed “temporarily” about 5 years ago.
Can you tell me whether you used the grounding rod? If so, did you find a suitable piece of metal near the mirror?
Did you finish up installing the controller in the centre console? Did that turn out to be a convenient location?
Thanks in advance
Darryl
Very useful posts as I am just about to instal Pure 600 system.
I bought the unit “Badged as Alpine” from Car Audio Direct for £120 including postage.![]()
I have used them before, have found them VERY easy to deal with, and their prices are always keen.
I have also fitted an MX5 parts centre console…a well worthwhile mod.

Hi,
I did use the grounding rod and found lots of metal for the magnet to attach to under the header rail trim. It’s best to remove it to hide the cables and use the little self adhesive clips to route the cable securely, there’s a lot of room inside there. I was going to sand some paint off to get a good connection but it wasn’t necessary and the reception has been fine. I did put a dab of glue from the glue gun just to stop a jolt knocking the magnet off.
Make sure you line up the aerial and the black box carefully before fully sticking it down. I fitted the header trim back first and then carefully peeled the round tape off first and then the flimsy aerial last.
Also changed the centre console for the MX5 Parts / IL Motorsport one. (That was a very easy fit). Now the Pure controller sits nicely in there at the gear lever end and is angled up slightly. As it’s battery powered, there’s no cabling to run and I have just sat it on some Blue Tack to see if it was practical. If I need to change anything then I just flick open the centre console and hit a button. Have mostly used it for favourite stations and it’s easy to scroll through those without even looking.
I wanted to hide the controller rather than sticking it to the dashboard and to retain a near original interior look. The Blue Tack was going to be ‘temporary’ but has turned out to work just fine.
It’s too dark at the moment for pictures but I’ll take a snap tomorrow, if you need to see it.

Thanks, this has been very helpful.
I finished up mounting my aerial vertically in the top left hand corner of my windscreen as I was worried about poking around inside the windscreen surround and risking scratching off paint in there. I attached the grounding pad thing to one of the screwheads under (well above) the nearside sun visor which I assumed screws into metal somewhere.
As I didn’t want to use a sticky pad on my dashboard (and I don’t think it would have stuck on the copious amounts of Auto Glym plastic and rubber treatment I use), I mounted my controller by taking out the useless little coin tray in the centre console, strapping the mount for the controller to this with black electrical tape and popping the coin tray back in place. I too have the MX5 Parts centre console but wanted to keep the controller in an easy to reach place.
All wires are almost completely hidden and it all works well.
Old Highway unit now destined for daughter’s Polo on the weekend.
Cheers
Darryl
hijacking this thread a little, have just taken out my pure highway single din unit from my mk2.5 ready to fit into my newer slightly less crash damaged mk3, does anyone know what leads i will need to have the steering wheel controls active please?
