DAB & Bluetooth upgrade for standard Head Unit

Hi guys

I’m a very happy new owner of a 06 Mk3 and hopefully done all my homework using the search option before asking for some help

The thing: I wanted to get some kind of Bluetooth adaptor to the standard unit, but recently, Absolute Radio is not in FM in my area anymore. I only listen to that station normally, so I think it’d be a good opportunity to see if I could take those 2 birds with a single upgrade, and here is the key: I love the way the interior looks, so I’d rather keep the original Unit (it’s the standard one)

Googling a bit, I’ve found the following options:

  • MX5Parts: Confirmed it's compatible, but only provides Bluetooth.

  • DynamicSounds: Not sure what's the difference between both models. It's supposed to be compatible, but can't figure out if they have Bluetooth and whether the integration would be as good as the MX5Parts system

  • xCarLink: Seems to do it all, but I think it's required either to use an external remote or the phone, which I guess it'd be no real advantage as Internet Radio (in case it's needed all the time)

So… I think I just need to choose one, but I’m a bit concerned as I’d like to keep it in a reasonable budget (£150 or so would be fine) while maintaining the original stereo, and keeping the steering controls + having a decent integration of the hands free, as I use my commute time to catch up on the phone, so I need a system that is robust enough.

Has anyone any experience with any of the systems? Or any advice / alternatives that you guys could think of, in case my approach is wrong?

Thanks so much for the forum, it’s great to see all info and support, in fact, already taken some great posts about maintenance, even for a newby as me

Cheers!

Hi, I bought a bluetooth adapter from a well known site (not ebay - the other one) and it works very well, listen to all music from my phone, and can answer calls. only has last number redial though. it isn’t an dab adapter though so if I want to listen to planet rock or other dab radio  station then you have to use the app on your phone and use data!
