DAB radio in a Mk 3.5

  1. My model of MX-5 is: Mk3.75
  2. I’m based near: __
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __
Am I the only one with a 3.75 DAB rhead unit adio that doesn’t want to pick up DAB 10 miles from my house.
I have tried a splitter, same result took the power from the aerial same result. (removed the 12volts) I even disconnected the aerial so just using the aerial lead same result so to my way of thinking the aerial is ■■■■.
So what should I use a dedicated DAB aerial ? If yes what have other people fitted and please don’t say a windscreen stuck on aerial cos I tried that and it looks a mess.

Sorry, but haven’t we done this about 2-3 times before?
They don’t look a mess if you fit them properly and they DO work would be my opinion.
Mine works in Wiltshire, Somerset, Bristol, Dorset, South Wales and my mates works in Yorkshire and I guess others works in other locations too.
As said before, perhaps it’s just the area. :slightly_smiling_face:

If the car came with a AM/FM radio which yours did, it will also come with an aerial that is tuned for AM/FM. DAB is a later technology so the whole thing has to be upgraded. It’s a bit like TV aerials as TV developed, so the shape and size of the aerial changes with it for best reception.

Have a Google for DAB car aerials which don’t only come as the sort that stick on your screen. There are several on Amazon.

Allegedly, the Moss stubby aluminium aerial is DAB compatible and its not dear at 17 or 18 quid.

Yes at the risk of sounding disingenuous I went down the change the aerial route for my 07 Mk3 after fitting a windscreen aerial that, in my opinion, looked 'orrid. I don’t doubt they work but surely there must be something better than that. Or a way to fit that doesn’t look 'orrid.
Going back to the DAB aerial I fitted it was an Eightwood nice aerial but the hole in the car that accepts the Mazda AM/FM aerial is much larger than than needed to fit the Eightwood and I spent a day jobbing the aerial to fit the car properly and it still didn’t look right. So this time I want to do it right because my car is newer.
That is why I ask.
I am looking to find someone that is or was in the same situation as me that has
Removed the Sanyo factory fitted head unit
Replaced it with a DAB radio head unit (Pioneer as thats what everyone recommended).
Then tell me what they are using as an aerial that actually not only fits the car nicely but receives DAB continously.
I apologise if I seem to be asking the same question(s)
I don’t like the look of windscreen aerials I think they are naff.
I want some one to recommend an aerial that fits on the ■■■■ end that FITS & WORKS.
Yes there are loads on Amazon, Ebay, Google etc etc I agree. As I have said earlier a recommendation would be good before I spend more money on something that either looks a mess or doesn’t work
What experience have people had with Hama DAB car aerials cos they come up as being good.
Thanks
