Always thought that when I retired I would buy an MG or similar to ‘do up’. Now retired, the ‘doing up’ element no longer appeals, particularly as I only have a single garage. Classics that have been seriously restored are probably good value considering the man hours put in, but are nevertheless beyond what I wanted to spend.
Colleagues suggested the MX5 as an alternative, to which my initial response was, “no way do I want one of those”. However, over the past year I have been taking sideways glances at the NC, and having been to see a fair few examples, really warmed to them.
Well, recently I bought one! A very nice example it is too. My adult children and their partners who visited at the weekend, unaware of my purchase, were keen to pull my leg a bit, particularly as the car is a somewhat ‘blingy’ true red 2014 NC sport tech nav with chrome everywhere. Think they were quietly impressed once I had given them a spin. My wife, who was originally a naysayer, rather took to the heated seats and has even warmed to the idea of some touring.
I’ve only covered a few hundred miles, and having only previously owned family diesels, have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me.
Already had my ‘fingers burnt’, buying from the parts for sale section though, luckily only involving a relatively small sum. Apart from that, the adventure has been great so far and really looking forward to next summer.
Nice choice. In my opinion that is so much better than an veteran MG and the work needed to keep them running.
I drove my last NC for 20k miles without the slightest problems with anything. They are just so reliable.
Congratulations! After having sports cars and motorcycles most of my working life I found myself at 77 deciding to sell my bike, and like you, considered a ‘proper’ sports car, and also like you realised that a resto project was unrealistic. But in our small market there is never a huge choice and at my age I could not wait too long to find something. After just missing out on a 1994 Morgan at a good price I decided I better look at the ‘hairdressers car’ that I had never taken much interest in. When a 2015 ND 1.5 turned up at a dealer a couple of hours away the wife and I decided to go and take a look out of curiosity. Test drove it and then drove it home same day! Apart from the surplus of electric gadgetry that I could do without it has been a great car to own and I regret not taking the MX5 seriously years ago. You are going to have loads of fun!
Good to point out that someone on this forum has taken advantage of you. I’ve never been scammed on the forums I use but that’s just being lucky. Hope this hasn’t made you lose faith in most people.
