Damaged radiator needs replacement- best option

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC

  2. I’m based near: __Exeter

  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __which Radiator

Need to replace our radiator on our 08 2.0i NC and have found 3 options, from MX-5 parts 1. Genuine £210 (cross flow single pass) 2. IL motorsports Aluminium (triple pass) £280 or via eBay Mishimoto Aluminium (cross-flow dual pass) £430 (only one with lifetime warranty) any preference or previous experience of the 2 aftermarket ones? We have air-con so also don’t know if the deeper aluminium ones will fit? Also is this A DIY job or would our local garage be a safer bet especially if the AC condenser needs to be removed to replace the rad. Any advice would be appreciated

Don’t be put off with quality aftermarket ones either.

Or sourced from a local refurbished company which maybe near you.

They can be had for around £130 off eBay motor sellers.

In my opinion you are pretty much stuck with a garage as you have aircon and that will need to be drained down properly and regassed afterwards etc etc.

Also due to the nature/location of the units a ramp would make the job so much easier.

Likewise, make sure the the aircon radiator (condenser) will last too…..

Never had an issue with cooling on mine even in +40C in Spain, so you might as well stick with a standard one.

Will you be keeping the car for a while is another consideration.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, we intend to keep the car for many years ( as long as it’s lasts or we get too old to get in and out of it:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: so don’t mind investing in something that we last. Being so close to the condenser was my concern it would have to be taken out to fit the rad so as you say that rules me out. Regards

A quick search suggests you “maybe” able to get the radiator out without disconnecting the condenser lines etc.

Good luck and enjoy your car. :+1::slightly_smiling_face:
