Pleasantly surprised by Romford Mazda, Colliers Row Lane, RM5 3ND. Took my scruffy Mk1 with its after market bits n pieces for a service following Dandy Cars’ demise. Nice people, good reception and they didn’t bat an eye looking at mine even though it stood out among all the new shiny modern Mazdas… Serviced it, fitted a style bar, changed brake pads, tightened things up, checked it over, declared it in good condition for its age, even jet washed the hood to check it wasn’t leaking (it came in leaking!). The bill was a nice surprise too; there is clearly an MX5 enthusiast in the workshop. They called me to let me know what they had found during their inspection; they know i have a date with a few mountain roads in Switzerland next month. Thanks guys, I’ll be back
Dandy Cars demise? - Really?
Dandy Cars were advertising in the latest HTST mag?
I think one of the guys at Romford Mazda is an mx5 enthusiast who’s about on mx5 nutz. Believe they also fit the bbr upgrades.
Sam? I think that he’s in sales as opposed to the workshop.
Yes a great shame they have gone, shame it seems to have been so sudden.
sorry to hear of Dandy Cars demise
I have used them in the past although recently I found coming from Kent too time consuming so I’ve used Bourne Road Garage who are OK but today I tried Kent MX5 Services in Goudhurst and found them excellent. Sometimes you need to speak to a mechanic rather than a receptionist and they were able to solve my problem the same afternoon as I took it there. Feel inclined to try them for regular servicing now.
I have used Everything MX5 in Romford numerous times for parts, servicing and other bits and bobs and have always been pleased with the service.
Thanks for your replies, suggestions, etc. Yes, Mazda Romford do have an Mx5 enthusiast in the workshop. Very happy about that.
Off to the Jura mountains next month, will post some pics
Dandy cars still up and running.
The new owners are branching out a little. They’re tradeing under 3 names now, as there’s not enough MX5 work to keep paying the bills. But they are definitely still tradeing as MX5 specialists. I spent 10 minutes chatting to them yesterday. They’re trying to get the website back up and running, but are having problems.
They say the former owners have left them with a few problems. Apparently there was a large debt owed to the owners club here for advertising in STHT which they were unaware of when taking over the business. They’ve tried to address that with the club, but without success. The bill remains unpaid and advertising in STHT stopped. This is of course just one side of the story.
They do plan to continue with the MX5 business, and the Dandy Cars name is still on site along with 2 others.
Yes, I think it is Sam who has had the BBR 175, but I usually deal with Chris and his team on service and honestly nothing is too much for them to consider and if it can be done they will do it and do it well too. I bought my 09 plate there before they had full details of the spec in March 09. At the moment I have effectively a BBR175 as the cams are awaited but then my roadster will be a full 200 . I don’t know about the sales people really but Chris, Steve, and Alex are brilliant and super friendly
