Hi Fivers. Have a 1996 1.8 NA. Bought 6 months ago, did a bit of work while off the road for winter. But… The airbag light is on. I couldn’t care less whether it works, I just want to turn the light out. Strangely, occasionally it does switch off, then randomly comes on again. Any suggestions?
Check wiring/plug under seats it’s normally the fault on most cars
Is the light flashing or on solidly? The latter I certainly wouldn’t expect. If flashing then that indicates an error code detected by the airbag system for which there is a very comprehensive list in the members downloads section.
Light is on solidly, most of the time.
The usual fault on an nb is that the light flashes in a set pattern which suggest passenger side airbag faulty. The usual suggested cause is bad connections on plug to seat. I replaced all plugs on mine and soldered wires but fault still intermittently occurred. Eventually traced it to seat pressure mat. (Amazingly the nb has a pressure mat with multiple sensors connected to a pcb buried in the seat which communicates with ecu via a can bus signal). Found a seat pressure mat signal emulator on eBay for £30, plugs in instead of seat and has cured fault permanently. Obviously means passenger air bag could detonate if no one in seat but I don’t plan on having baby seat in car so not an issue for me.
Not sure if na the same. If light on permanently you may just have faulty drivers side airbag itself.
Thanks. It’s on solidly most of the time. I don’t care for it, would be happy just to turn it off.
