I know some one must of posted this before but I can’t find it . I have a jap import mk1 1990 . The dash lights don’t work so can’t see the speedo or rev counter in the dark . Can some one help please . Was told about a blue plug behind the blanking switch but I can’t see where to plug it in then i read about grounding the red wires but not sure what they are talking about
From what I remember there is a multi plug connector that goes on the back of one of the blank switch on the right hand side of the dash. If you look at the back of the switch blank you will see that there is a metal link that completes the circuit when the multi plug connector is connected on it.
Bit garbled (sorry, long day and about to go to sleep) but hope you can make sense of it and it helps.
On some cars that ‘blank switch’ is where a panel light dimmer control and headlamp leveller lives. It is a good place to start looking; expect a missing link or broken dimmer, or, if someone has been messing about in the past, maybe a wire pulled out of the multi-connector.
The blanker switch just acts as a loop for the circuit to work, ,if in most cases it as been unplugged so some numbty as drilled it and fitted a flashing light or immobiliser panel , then the plug can be simply looped again, or you can fit a dimmer switch, the MK 2 ones fit also, same connection.
I have just come across this discussion and have the same problem. You were spot on with some idiot putting an immobiliser on it. my problem is that it whatever created the loop has been destroyed. I do not know what to connect together. The blue plug has three wires one red , one red and black and one black. what do i connect ??
